The new artwork captures a dramatic moment from the July 2024 assassination attempt, when Trump was wounded while speaking at a campaign event. The painting shows Trump with a bloodied ear, raising his fist high in the air, while Secret Service agents scramble to protect him.
This decision breaks a long-standing White House tradition. Usually, the portraits of the two most recent presidents before the current one are displayed in the Grand Foyer of the East Wing. At the moment, President Joe Biden’s portrait has not yet been finished, leaving only Trump’s new painting on display.
