The protests in Detroit is how you get it done!It’s been over a week of peaceful, lawful protests in the city.The curfew has been thrown out the window and the community and police department have come together as one for one mission; to fight against police brutality.Today a special meeting will take place.Mayor Duggan and Chief Craig will meet with protest leaders from the group “Detroit Will Breathe”.Ahead of the meeting they have submitted a list of 11 demands.
- Defund and Demilitarize the Police,
- End Project Greenlight and Facial Recognition,
- Drop All Charges and Citations received by protestors,
- Do not carry out eviction orders,
- Drop the uneven citations received by Detroiters during the stay at home order,
- End “consensual” sex between Police Officers and those under custody (Legally define all sex in custody as rape),
- Prosecute and fire any Police Officer involved in police brutality,
- Do not criminalize homeless people,
- Make Detroit a Sanctuary City,
- Create an Independent Office for Disabled Citizens, and
- Restore and maintain running water for all Detroiters.
This is the next step to real change in the city.
