The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22, in Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday (February 9).
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for 221 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 17 of 22 passing, while also recording 72 yards and one touchdown on 11 rushing attempts to be named Super Bowl MVP. Hurts scored on a one-yard run in the first quarter to give Philadelphia a 7-0 lead, which they extended to 24-0 at halftime and 34-0 deep into the third quarter.
DeVonta Smith led all Eagles receivers with four receptions for 69 yards and one touchdown, a 46-yard reception in the third quarter. A.J. Brown caught Hurts' other touchdown pass late in the second quarter, finishing with three receptions for 43 yards and one touchdown.
The Eagles defense forced Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to throw two interceptions after limiting him to just 33 yards passing at halftime. Mahomes finished Sunday's game with 257 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions on 21 of 32 passing, while also losing a fumble.
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who led the league in rushing and became the ninth player in NFL history to record more than 2,000 yards, recorded 57 yards on 25 rushing attempts. Barkley signed with the Eagles this past offseason after spending his entire career with the NFC East Division rival New York Giants.
The Eagles are now two-time Super Bowl champions, having won Super Bowl LII in 2018 and made five appearances, which included a loss to the Chiefs two years prior in Super Bowl LVII.
