It's National Candy Corn Day! Do You Love it Or Hate It?

It’s National Candy Corn Day (October 30), and that means more fuel added to the debate of whether the colorful candy is a sweet seasonal treat or a piece of trash.

Millions of pounds of candy corn is produced and sold in a given year, and most people either love it or hate it — there’s not much in between.

But most people in Michigan seem to err on the side of loving it, according to an online candy store’s analysis of 13 years of data, broken down state-by-state in an interactive map.

In Michigan, candy corn earned the No. 1 spot in the ranking of the most popular candies, followed by Starburst — last year’s winner — and Skittles, respectively.

Nationwide, candy corn drops to the No. 6 spot.

Skittles are the most popular candy on a national scale, followed by Reese’s Cups and Starburst, respectively.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourages safe alternatives to trick-or-treating, which is considered a higher-risk activity during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Detroit and Michigan officials have urged residents to celebrate Halloween safely, including developing guidelines to follow if families opt to trick-or-treat.
