Whitney Houston Produced 'The Princess Diaries' and Fans are Freaking Out

It's no secret that Whitney Houston was one of the most talented artists of all time. What many fans of the musical icon didn't know, though, was that Houston was also a successful movie producer. This little known fact was brought to light on Wednesday, July 9 when Netflix tweeted out a screengrab from the title credits of The Princess Diaries, which reveals that Houston was a producer of the popular film. "Excuse me, but I have to call everyone I've ever met and yell at them for not telling me Whitney Houston produced The Princess Diaries," Netflix tweeted.

The Princess Diaries isn't the only film Houston produced, either. In addition to The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, Houston had a hand in bringing the first two installments of The Cheetah Girls franchise to life, as well. Houston was also a producer for the beloved reimagining of the classic fairy-tale Cinderella (1997). This one is less surprising, however, because Houston co-starred in the film as the fairy god mother.

One Houston fan took to Twitter after Netflix's tweet went viral, saying Houston was "the reason why our childhood classics were so great and filled with bops!" She also shared a series of photos showing Houston on set of The Princess Diaries alongside Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway, and director Gary Marshall. By the looks of the photos, Houston appears to have been a very hands on producer, especially in the shot of her with Hathaway.

Houston's producing credit isn't the only thing that surprised fans about the popular princess films after they dropped on Netflix this month. Fans were also excited to discover that Shonda Rhimes was a screenwriter for Royal Engagement. According to one fan named Wyatt, this is enough of a reason to have "three times the respect [and] love for this movie. As we all know, Rhimes went on to create Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder for ABC.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm definitely binge-watching The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement on Netflix tonight.
