Free Tuition At Wayne State Misleading?

As we celebrate the great news today in reference to Wayne State University’s offer to provide “Tuition Free” admittance to this wonderful institution of higher learning for Detroit and Michigan students. Be aware of the fine print. to receive this opportunity students MUST  join and apply though the RaiseMe app (which is a national program used by colleges and universities around the country) HERE Are the requirements: Students must have an ACT score of at least 31 or SAT Score of at least 1430, or be in the top 5% of their high school class and have a GPA OF 3.8!!!! and qualify for monies on a point system based on school activities 9th-12th grade year . In addition to filling out the FAFSA federal grant application which assists in subsiding need based financial aid.    

Below are comments in part of today’s press conference.

Here are the restrictions on getting the funding:

Live in the city of Detroit (verified by mailing address) and have graduated from any Michigan high school or any Detroit high school (public, private, charter, parochial, home school or GED program) in 2020 or after.

   Use the RaiseMe app to complete activities associated with student success while earning microscholarships.

   Receive admission to Wayne State University as a first-time, full-time freshman in fall 2020. 

    Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, for the following fall semester. And as you can see from the below chart many of the students from some of the best school districts in the state wouldn’t qualify.
