From Bruno Mars opening the show with a bang, to Chance the Rapper being honored by our forever First Lady Michelle Obama, and the New Edition tribute moving right into Leslie Williams keeping the show humorous and fun, the 2017 BET Awards was – again – a night to remember. But one joke of the night had many of us in agreement: Leslie started off her hosting job for the BET Awards questioning her success for the evening. “I don’t know if I’m gonna mess up somebody’s name. When I was growing up, you could understand the rapper’s names.”
It’s true, today’s rappers have some of the most unique names in hip-hop history. But Leslie brought it all home and kept the jokes rolling. “What’s a Lil Yachty? Is that a boat? A small boat? Why don’t you want a big yachty?!”
As she egged on an already cracking up laughing audience she reminisced, “When I was coming up, you could understand the rapper’s names. Old Dirty Bastard was an Old. Dirty. Bastard.”
